After playing it Nvidia's strategy of combining rtx with DLSS is really starting to make sense. Overall the game was more fun than I expected and looked better than I thought it would. Switching to "quality" setting eliminates the issues. One problem I found is that setting texture quality to "highest quality" in NV control panel creates loading issues for textures that make them load at very low resolution initially. Once you turn it on however it deepens your immersion. Ray tracing effects are very nice but the game also does a good job of looking good without it. Texture already look decently sharp with DLSS alone. Post render sharpening is uncecessary to my eye. There's no point in taking the performance hit from 1440p rendering. You literally can't tell while you are playing. There is very little visual difference at 4k dlss with rendering set to either 1440p or 1080p. Of course native 4k rendering with rtx high looks even more amazing but the framerates are quite bad, about 25ish.

Granted, this is partly due to the full 4K being somewhat limited in clarity by the designer's choice of adding film grain that you cannot turn off. So good sometimes you can't tell it's not native 4K. Game looks surprisingly good with DLSS upscaling from 1080p. Typically it was a buttery smooth 60 fps or so. Minimum frames I saw was about 50 in heaviest fighting.

Game runs terrific at 1080p rendering upscaled to 4K using DLSS with every options maxed out. So after playing the game for a couple of hours on a 2070 super here are my impressions:
